Yamaha Snowmobiles
Q. Do 4-stroke snowmobiles weigh more than 2-strokes?
A. Generally speaking, a 4-stroke engine will weigh slightly more than a 2-stroke. Yamaha 4-stroke snowmobiles also include electric starting, which adds some additional weight, but delivers the benefit of easy starts. Overall the 4-stroke sleds are within 6% of the weight of a competitively featured 2-stroke. This equates to less than a tank of gas. Considering that all modern performance sleds weigh in well over 500lbs with a full tank of gas and other fluids, the weight difference becomes quite negligible and the benefits substantial.
Q. Why did Yamaha choose to use 4-stroke engines in snowmobiles instead of developing cleaner 2-strokes?
A. There is far more to the 4-stroke story than exhaust emissions. The 4-stroke engine produces more torque than a 2-stroke within a wider power band. This 'power-character' added to the reliability and efficiency of the four-stroke has led Yamaha to develop world class, 4-stroke engines for sleds, bikes, outboards and personal watercraft.
Q. How much less would I expect a 4-stroke snowmobile to cost me for fuel and oil?
A. 35% better is an average. The actual range will vary based on conditions, speed and engine mileage. Generally speaking, the fuel range will improve as the engine reaches the 1000km 'break-in' point. The 4-stroke becomes even more efficient at higher speeds when compared to 2-strokes, which use the fuel charge to help cool the engine. The 4-stroke only requires a periodic oil change, where any 2-stroke needs a constant supply of expensive oil that works its way through the engine leaving a cloud of blue smoke in the air or black drool on the ground.
Q. Why did Yamaha develop two completely new rear suspensions instead of just one?
A. Both suspensions were designed and engineered separately but with similar targets in mind. It became obvious that each had unique characteristics and benefits that suited different styles of riding and model applications. It was decided to develop both suspensions to offer a wider range of models with greater adjustability and choice for our customers.

Yamaha ATVs
Q. What is the advantage of having Independent Rear Suspension (IRS)?
A. Comfort and ground clearance. IRS allows each rear tire to move independently of the other, helping to isolate the rider from terrain changes. This translates to increased rider comfort, reducing fatigue and potentially allowing you to ride longer. Additionally the rear differential can be positioned to offer maximum ground clearance.
Q. What is the advantage of having a Monocross (swing arm with solid axle) rear suspension?
A. For sport ATVs, Monocross offers added cornering performance. The solid rear axle helps limit body roll, and keeps the weight down by eliminating the need for a rear sway bar.

Q. Where can I ride my ATV?

Remember, liability insurance is often a requirement for riding on public land. Most off-road trails are multi use. Always wear a helmet, tread lightly and respect others that use the trails.
Q. What is the major difference between the Kodiak 400 and the Kodiak 450?
A. Engine displacement and features. Both offer electric start, on-command push button four wheel drive (4WD) and Yamaha's exclusive Ultramatic Transmission. Besides a larger engine, the Kodiak 450 adds a low range transmission, push button front differential lock and LCD gauges.

Yamaha Outboard Motors
Q. How do I select the correct propeller for my Yamaha outboard?
A. Your Yamaha outboard should run within the recommended RPM range at wide open throttle (refer to your owners manual). The RPM range can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the pitch of your propeller: increase in pitch = decrease in RPM, decrease in pitch = increase in RPM.
Q. Why has the model year designation been eliminated from Yamaha Outboards?
A. Because, in general, outboards are not changing physically from year to year, there is no need to present a model year on the units.
Additionally, dealers and boat builders are now better able to carry adequate inventory throughout the year because they won't have to slim down inventory in advance of a new Model Year. Therefore, there is a much better chance your dealer will have what you want, when you want it.
Q. How will I know when my outboard was produced?
A. All Yamaha outboards have and will continue to have a production date on the unit. A permanent label is located on the starboard side of the outboard mounting bracket. The label is stamped with the month/year of production for that outboard (ex. 04/09).
Q. What if I want the newest engine or I want an outboard to match one I currently use as a twin?
A. There is no significant difference between outboards if they are the same model. (For example, an F150 is an F150, if made yesterday or many months ago.)
When Yamaha does make a substantial change to a current model (for example, the F25 family had a completely new block and cosmetic change), the model would be renamed using a generation code (i.e. F25LMH to F25LMHA) and launched as a new outboard. The use of this new outboard designation (generation code) will allow you to determine if you have the latest technology engine and to match technologies if you have twin engines. Please contact your local Yamaha Outboard dealer for the most current models in the Yamaha line up.
Q. Do I still get the same limited warranty on my outboard regardless of age?
A. Yamaha has and will continue to begin its limited warranty period at the time of registration for the first owner. Upon delivery, your outboard is inspected by the dealer and warranty registered. Your limited warranty starts the day of registration regardless of the production date of the engine.
Q. How will my outboard be valued in appraisal publications?
A. Since most boat packages are valued by independent publications based on the make of the boat and the horsepower of the outboard, the model year designation of the outboard should not have an impact on the appraisal of the boat/motor package.

A. To find out about Yamaha products, please click the Products links located at the top of any page on this Web site.
Q. Can I import/export a new Yamaha?
A. It is not recommended that you import or export a new Yamaha product. Yamaha products meet strict compliance regulations for the country in which it was originally intended. In addition, the Yamaha factory warranty is not transferable between countries.
